Monthly books and a plain-English read for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pool and spa, and general contracting. Same service the rest of the site describes. This page is about why I understand your business before you explain it.
I spent three years at Frontdoor, a public company built on a network of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and appliance contractors, where I ran the HVAC upgrade program. I looked hard at how trade contractors make money, from the other side of the table. So you will not have to teach me what a truck roll costs you, why your good month was a cash problem, or what happens to margin when material prices move and your bids do not.
Material creeps up a few points at a time and bids follow late, or never. It does not show up as a bad month. It shows up as a year where you worked harder for the same money.
Service, installs, warranty, new construction. Most contractors have a strong suspicion and no number. If the work is tracked separately in your books, I can show you which one is really paying the bills.
Your largest cost and the one that moves the slowest. Watched every month, it tells you when you are carrying crew you have not sold work for yet.
A busy quarter can be your tightest one. Knowing that in advance is the difference between a line of credit you arranged and a line of credit you needed.
I do not do job costing. Real job costing means your crews code their hours to a job every day, and that is a discipline in your field operation, not in your books. I am not going to sell you a report that depends on data nobody is collecting. If you already invoice by job and code your material and subcontractor bills to the job when they come in, that is a different conversation and worth having.
I also do not do tax returns, tax filing, or payroll. You keep your CPA and your payroll provider, and I hand them clean books.
A bookkeeper records what happened. Here is the gap between clean books and knowing what to do.
The five numbers worth tracking every month, and how to actually read the statement.
Most contractors run QuickBooks like a checkbook and skip what matters.
Owner pay, draws and what it does to the picture your numbers give you.
I look at 90 days of your books and statements, then show you where your money is actually going and the biggest opportunities I see, whether or not you ever hire me. No cost, no commitment. All I need is a few months of bank and card statements.
